10 Questions Before Sailing MSC Poesia (Answered!) 🚢

10 Questions Before Sailing MSC Poesia (Answered!)

Planning a cruise on the MSC Poesia and wondering what to expect before you sail? We had plenty of questions before boarding our 7-night Alaska cruise, so we put together this video answering 10 of the things we wanted to know most.

From dropping off our bags and finding the right outlets to dining, pool hours, tendering in Juneau, Victoria, entertainment, and some surprisingly quiet viewing spots around the ship, here are a few of the things we learned during our sailing.

🎥 Watch the full video here:
https://youtu.be/S4vWBFd5_Sg

🧳 Could We Drop Off Our Bags in Our Cabin Right Away?

One of our first questions was whether we would need to carry our bags around until the cabins were officially ready. After boarding, we checked with Guest Services and were happy to learn that we could drop our bags off in the cabin and then leave again until the room was ready.

That made embarkation day much easier, especially when you want to start exploring the ship without carrying everything with you.

🔌 What Outlets Are in the MSC Poesia Cabins?

Our aft balcony cabin had a good selection of charging options, although almost all of them were concentrated around the vanity.

We had two North American outlets, European outlets, USB-A and USB-C charging ports. There were no dedicated outlets on both sides of the bed, which is something we always like to know before sailing.

Our MSC Poesia cabin included North American and European outlets along with USB-A and USB-C charging ports.

🍽️ What Complimentary Food Is Available?

For complimentary meals, we used the buffet and the main dining rooms. The buffet served breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night snacks, and we especially appreciated the 24-hour beverage station.

The main dining rooms were also included and offered breakfast, lunch, and dinner at different times throughout our sailing.

We had originally been assigned a 7:15 p.m. dinner at a group table. After speaking with the dining staff, we were fortunate to be moved to a 5:00 p.m. dining time with a table for two. Changes are based on availability, but it was definitely worth asking.

🏊 Pool & Hot Tub Hours

This one surprised us. On our sailing, the outdoor pools were open from 8:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m., while the whirlpools were open from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Those were some of the earliest hot tub closing times we have experienced on a cruise, so it is worth checking the schedule if evening hot tubs are part of your cruise routine.

🚶 Is There a Walking Track?

Sort of!

There are outdoor areas where you can walk, including Deck 7, but you cannot walk completely around the ship there. Up on Deck 14, there is an area MSC identifies as a power walking track, although there were no painted track markings during our sailing and the area can sometimes be obstructed.

⚓ Our Juneau Tender Experience

We had a private excursion booked in Juneau and thought we had left plenty of time to get ashore. Unfortunately, the tender process took much longer than expected and we arrived onshore around 10 minutes after our excursion was scheduled to leave.

Thankfully, our excursion company was able to rearrange things for us, but others were dealing with the same problem. If your MSC Poesia sailing tenders in Juneau and you have a private excursion, we would definitely allow as much extra time as possible.

Is 4 Hours in Victoria Worth Getting Off the Ship?

For us, absolutely.

Our stop was scheduled from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Even with the limited time, we enjoyed walking toward Fisherman’s Wharf and downtown Victoria, seeing the Parliament Buildings and the Empress Hotel, and simply enjoying the beautiful city.

We would recommend getting in line early to leave the ship so you can make the most of those four hours.

Welcome to Victoria Canada sign at the cruise terminal during our MSC Poesia Alaska cruise.
Even with only four hours in Victoria, we were glad we got off the MSC Poesia and explored the city.

💃 What’s the Difference Between the Two Dirty Dancing Shows?

MSC Poesia offered two very different Dirty Dancing experiences during our sailing.

Dirty Dancing in Concert featured the full movie along with a live band and production performers appearing during the musical and dance portions.

Later, Dirty Dancing: The Celebration was more like a traditional cruise production show, with live music, singing, and dancing but without the movie playing behind it.

They were different enough that we were glad we experienced both.

🌊 Are There Any Hidden Viewing Spots on MSC Poesia?

This was one of our favorite discoveries.

At the front of the ship on Decks 9, 10, 11, and 14, you can walk past the cabins and through the doors at the end of the hallway to reach small forward-facing outdoor viewing areas. Some have seating or more overhead coverage than others, and they can be wonderfully quiet.

There are also outdoor staircases and viewing areas around the aft of the ship, including spaces near the back of the buffet. These became some of our favorite places to enjoy the scenery without the crowds.

One of the quieter forward viewing areas aboard MSC Poesia gave us incredible scenery during glacier day.

⭐ 10 MSC Poesia Questions Answered

MSC Poesia Aft Balcony Cabin Tour: Stateroom 11250 on Deck 11 🚢

MSC Poesia Aft Balcony Cabin Tour: Stateroom 11250 on Deck 11

If you’re considering an aft balcony cabin on the MSC Poesia, come along as we take you inside Stateroom 11250 on Deck 11. This cabin is located right at the back of the ship, and it was our first time staying in an aft-facing balcony cabin. 🌊

During our 7-night Alaska cruise, we had the chance to experience the cabin both in port and while sailing. Below, we’ll show you the room, storage, charging options, bathroom, and of course, one of the biggest reasons to choose this location, the view from the aft balcony.

🎥 Watch the full cabin tour here:
https://youtu.be/2zU-h8ofhwY

🛏️ Inside MSC Poesia Stateroom 11250

The cabin has a warm Italian-inspired look with red and burgundy accents throughout. Our bed was arranged as a king, although it can also be configured as two twin beds. There were four pillows, two decorative pillows, and nightstands with three drawers on each side.

The nightstands also had individual lights and switches for the main cabin lighting. One thing worth noting is that there were no electrical outlets beside the bed, so devices need to be charged over at the vanity area.

A look inside our MSC Poesia aft balcony cabin, Stateroom 11250 on Deck 11.

🔌 Vanity, Outlets and Charging

The vanity area provided most of the cabin’s electrical connections. We found two North American outlets, European outlets, plus USB-A and USB-C charging ports.

We were happy with the number of available connections, although having everything concentrated in one area meant our electronics and Andrea’s hair tools all had to be used or charged in the same spot.

The vanity also included a large mirror, drawers, a stool, and the cabin’s built-in hair dryer.

📸 MSC Poesia Cabin Outlets

Electrical outlets and USB charging ports in MSC Poesia aft balcony cabin 11250.
The main charging area in MSC Poesia Stateroom 11250 includes North American and European outlets along with USB-A and USB-C ports.

🧳 Storage, TV and Mini Bar

Storage was quite good for the size of the cabin. There were six drawers near the closet along with shelving, a safe, and hanging space. Our closet had 12 hangers along with space at the bottom for additional items.

The cabin also had a swivel Samsung TV, a mini bar stocked with items available for an additional charge, and a large wall mirror that helped make the room feel brighter and more spacious.

We also confirmed that several of the cabin walls, the ceiling, and the main cabin door are metal, which makes magnetic cruise hooks useful for hanging clothing, papers, and other lightweight items.

🌊 The Aft Balcony

Of course, the feature we were most excited about was the aft-facing balcony.

The balcony is somewhat narrow and angled, but it had two chairs, a footstool, and a small table. There isn’t a lot of overhead coverage, which could be worth considering on rainy days.

What really makes this cabin special is the view. Looking straight out from the back of the ship gives you a completely different perspective compared with a traditional balcony along the side. 🚢

📸 View From the Aft Balcony

Wake view from MSC Poesia aft balcony cabin 11250 while sailing.
One of our favorite parts of Stateroom 11250 was watching the ship’s wake from the aft-facing balcony.

🚿 MSC Poesia Cabin 11250 Bathroom

The bathroom is fairly typical for a cruise ship cabin. It includes a sink with storage underneath, several shelves, large mirrors, towels, and a shower with an adjustable shower head.

The shower uses a shower curtain rather than glass doors, and MSC provided shampoo and shower gel but no separate conditioner. There is also a retractable clothesline inside the shower, which is handy for drying swimsuits.

We tested the shower during the tour and found the water pressure to be very good. 💦

🧳 Can You Store Suitcases Under the Bed?

Yes. Our 28-inch Level8 suitcase fit underneath the bed, although it was a tight fit and needed to be slid underneath from the side.

Being able to store larger luggage under the bed is particularly useful in a cabin where keeping the floor space clear makes the room feel noticeably larger.

⭐ Our MSC Poesia Aft Balcony Cabin

Overall, MSC Poesia Stateroom 11250 gave us everything we needed during our cruise, with good storage, plenty of charging options, and a comfortable layout.

The real reason to consider this cabin, however, is its location. Staying right at the back of the ship gave us those unique aft-facing views and a fantastic look at the wake while sailing, while also putting us in a very convenient spot. Just outside the cabin area, an outdoor staircase provided quick access up to the back of the buffet, which made it easy to grab food or a drink without walking far through the ship.

If you’re considering an aft balcony on the MSC Poesia, or specifically researching Cabin 11250 on Deck 11, we hope this tour gives you a better idea of what to expect.

One of the things we appreciated most was how easy the ship was to navigate. After just a day or two onboard, we felt very comfortable moving between decks and finding our way around the various venues.

The Lido Pool Area

Located on Deck 12, the Lido Pool area serves as one of the main gathering places aboard the Celebrity Solstice. This outdoor space features two swimming pools, several hot tubs, and plenty of lounge chairs for relaxing while enjoying ocean views.

Even on our Alaska sailing, we found guests enjoying the pools and hot tubs throughout the week. The layout also made it easy to move between the pool deck, the Mast Grill, and the Oceanview Cafe.

The Truth About the Celebrity Solstice: Our Likes & Wishes 🚢

The Truth about the Celebrity Solstice: Our Likes & Wishes (Celebrity Solstice Review)

After spending seven nights aboard the Celebrity Solstice on an Alaska cruise from Vancouver, we had plenty of time to explore the ship and experience what it has to offer. There was a lot we really enjoyed, along with a few things we wished were different!

In this Celebrity Solstice review, we’re sharing our Likes & Wishes in four main areas: the layout and amenities, our sideways inside cabin 7160, the free food and restaurants, and the entertainment and activities onboard. 🚢🏔️

Celebrity Solstice Layout & Amenities

Grand Foyer aboard the Celebrity Solstice cruise ship
The elegant Grand Foyer is one of the beautiful public spaces aboard the Celebrity Solstice. 🚢

One of our first impressions of the Celebrity Solstice was how elegant and sophisticated the ship felt. It had recently been through dry dock, and many areas felt fresh and updated. Even though our sailing was full, we also rarely felt like the ship was overcrowded.

Some of our favourite spaces included Sunset Park, with its outdoor seating, games and beautiful aft views, and the Sky Observation Lounge, where the floor-to-ceiling windows made it a fantastic place to enjoy Alaska’s scenery when the weather wasn’t cooperating.

We also really enjoyed the relaxing indoor Solarium, the outdoor pools, Oceanview Cafe, Grand Epernay Restaurant and many of the lounges throughout the ship.

One of our biggest wishes was the lack of a sports court and public forward-facing outdoor space on the upper decks. We also found the beautiful Grand Foyer could become crowded during popular events.

Overall, though, we thought the Celebrity Solstice was a beautiful, classy and easy-to-navigate ship. 👍

Our Sideways Inside Cabin 7160 🛏️

Sideways inside cabin 7160 aboard the Celebrity Solstice
Our spacious sideways inside cabin 7160 was our home for seven nights aboard the Celebrity Solstice. 🛏️

Our home for the week was inside cabin 7160 on Deck 7, and its unusual sideways layout ended up being one of the things we really liked.

The cabin felt surprisingly spacious for an inside room, with a full-size couch, large vanity, plenty of storage and a good amount of open floor space. We also had two North American outlets and one European outlet at the vanity.

Interestingly, USB-A and USB-C charging ports appeared beside both sides of our bed partway through the cruise! Looking back at our footage, they had covers over them when we boarded and appeared to have been installed during our sailing.

The bathroom included a glass shower enclosure, plenty of shelving and shampoo, conditioner and body wash. We also found the cabin generally quiet and were able to request a large fan.

Our biggest wish? We couldn’t fit our suitcases underneath the bed! Thankfully, the room was spacious enough that this wasn’t a major problem.

Overall, we were very happy with cabin 7160 for our seven-night cruise.

Celebrity Solstice Free Food & Restaurants 🍽️

Filet mignon with shrimp served in the Celebrity Solstice main dining room
Filet mignon with shrimp was the chef’s special on our final evening aboard the Celebrity Solstice. 🥩🍤

We were impressed with the variety of complimentary food available aboard the Celebrity Solstice.

The Oceanview Cafe offered a large selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with separate food islands that helped keep lines manageable. We found everything from omelettes, eggs Benedict and waffles at breakfast to carving stations, steak, salmon, pizza, Indian and Asian dishes, salads and plenty of desserts later in the day.

Other complimentary options included the Mast Grill, Spa Cafe, Sunset Park Cafe, and complimentary snacks and pastries at Cafe al Bacio.

Our main dining room was the beautiful Grand Epernay Restaurant, where we enjoyed breakfast and several dinners. Some highlights included prime rib, beef Wellington, salmon, short ribs, complimentary lobster tail on the second formal night and even filet mignon as the chef’s special on our final evening. 🥩🦞

We wished there had been a little more variety among the appetizers, and some of our steaks were cooked more than requested, but overall we thought the complimentary dining was very good.

Celebrity Solstice Entertainment & Activities 🎭

Candlelight concert in the Celebrity Solstice Sky Observation Lounge
The candlelight concert in the Sky Observation Lounge was one of our favorite entertainment experiences of the cruise. 🎻✨

Entertainment was another highlight, especially the production shows and live music.

The Solstice Theater featured singers, dancers, aerial performers and, importantly for us, a live band. Some of our favourite shows included Rockumentary, Broken Strings, and Smoke & Ivories. We also enjoyed guest comedians, magicians and musicians throughout the week.

One of our favourite evenings was the candlelight concert in the Sky Observation Lounge, with the sun setting outside while a violinist, pianist and full band performed. 🎻

The dueling pianos were another highlight, although they were so popular that the Boulevard Lounge often wasn’t big enough for everyone wanting to watch.

There were also plenty of activities, including trivia, bingo, karaoke, arts and crafts, dance lessons, board games, Skee-Ball, shuffleboard, cornhole and more.

The overall atmosphere was definitely more relaxed than party-focused, which we thought suited an Alaska cruise extremely well.

Our Final Thoughts on the Celebrity Solstice 🚢

After seven nights onboard, we came away impressed with the Celebrity Solstice. We loved its elegant atmosphere, comfortable public spaces, relaxing Solarium, surprisingly spacious inside cabin, complimentary dining and high-quality entertainment.

Of course, there were things we wished were different, and that’s exactly why we like sharing both sides of our experience.

If you’re planning a Celebrity Solstice Alaska cruise or considering booking this ship, we hope our Likes & Wishes help you know a little more about what to expect before you sail! 🚢🏔️

🚢 Celebrity Solstice Complimentary Food Tour

Now that you’ve had a chance to check out the menus, let’s take a look at some of the complimentary food we found around the Celebrity Solstice.

All of the food featured in our video was included with our cruise fare at no additional cost. There are specialty restaurants and other food and beverage options available for an additional charge, but this tour focuses specifically on the included food we saw and ate during our cruise.

Oceanview Cafe Buffet

The Oceanview Cafe is the main buffet aboard the Celebrity Solstice and is located on Deck 14. The buffet uses an island-style layout, which made it easy to move between the different food stations.

For breakfast, we found everything from eggs, bacon, sausage and hash browns to pancakes, waffles, French toast, fresh fruit, pastries, cereals and made-to-order omelets. There were also a variety of international breakfast dishes available.

At lunch and dinner, the selection changed considerably, with salads, meats and cheeses, pizza, pasta, Indian dishes, Mexican-inspired options, carving stations, fish, chicken, vegetables and much more. 🍕🥗

And don’t skip dessert! We found cakes, cookies, soft-serve ice cream and even hard-scoop ice cream with several flavours available during our sailing. 🍦

Hard-scoop ice cream was one of our favourite dessert options at the Celebrity Solstice Oceanview Cafe. 🍦

Complimentary Drinks

The Oceanview Cafe also had complimentary beverage stations with regular and decaf coffee, hot water, tea, iced tea, lemonade and other beverages. Juice selections were also available during breakfast.

🍔 More Complimentary Food Around Celebrity Solstice

The buffet certainly isn’t your only option.

Up on Deck 15, Sunset Park Cafe offered a selection of complimentary snacks, including sandwiches, wraps, pastries, salads and fruit cups. This was also where we found the afternoon warm cookie hour. 🍪

Near the pool, Mast Grill was the place to grab hamburgers, hot dogs and French fries, while Spa Cafe in the Solarium offered lighter options such as fruit, salads and wraps.

We also stopped by Cafe al Bacio, where the specialty coffees cost extra, but we found a selection of complimentary pastries, cakes, cookies and small sandwiches.

🍽️ Grand Epernay Restaurant

The beautiful two-story Grand Epernay Restaurant is the Celebrity Solstice’s main dining room, located toward the aft of the ship on Decks 3 and 4.

We ate here for breakfast, lunch and dinner during our cruise. Breakfast included options such as omelets, Eggs Benedict, pancakes and waffles, while lunch offered a changing selection of appetizers, sandwiches and entrées.

Dinner was where we saw the largest variety throughout the week, with different appetizers, soups, salads, entrées and desserts each evening. On our first Evening Chic night, for example, the menu included shrimp scampi, pan-seared cobia, seared duck, grilled lamb T-bone and Steak Diane, along with the Celebrity Classics.

During the cruise we also enjoyed dishes including prime rib, Beef Wellington, braised beef short ribs and filet mignon with shrimp. On our second Evening Chic night, complimentary broiled lobster tail was also available. 🦞

Celebrity Solstice Alaska Cruise: Day 6, Ketchikan Boat Tour & Evening Chic

Celebrity Solstice Alaska Cruise: Ketchikan Lighthouse Totems & Eagles Excursion - Day 6 Vlog

Our sixth day aboard the Celebrity Solstice brought us to our final Alaska port, Ketchikan, after a relaxing morning at sea. We spent the morning whale spotting from the ship, relaxing in the hot tubs, and enjoying lunch in the Grand Epernay Restaurant before arriving in port. Even with a rainy forecast, we were excited for another day of exploring Alaska! 🚢🌲

Join us as we spend Day 6 of our Celebrity Solstice Alaska cruise in Ketchikan, take the Lighthouse Totems & Eagles Excursion, and return to the ship for Evening Chic night and complimentary lobster tail.

Lighthouse Totems & Eagles Excursion

After arriving in Ketchikan, we met our tour group at the Liquid Sunshine Gauge in downtown Ketchikan, where Lighthouse Excursions picked us up and shuttled us over to Ward Cove for the Lighthouse Totems & Eagles Excursion. If you’re looking for a smaller, more personal excursion, this was a fantastic option. Our knowledgeable guides shared stories about the local history, Native culture, and wildlife while we cruised the scenic waterways around Ketchikan.

One of the highlights of the tour was spotting numerous bald eagles throughout the excursion. We also enjoyed views of Guard Island Lighthouse, Totem Bight State Historical Park from the water, beautiful coastal scenery, and an Alaska-inspired snack sampler while learning more about life in southeast Alaska. Even though the weather was wet, it didn’t take away from the experience, and the scenery had that classic misty Alaska atmosphere.

Evening Chic & Complimentary Lobster Tail

Back aboard the Celebrity Solstice, it was time for our second Evening Chic night. Before dinner, we enjoyed a fantastic performance by guest entertainer Hayden Smith in the Solstice Theater.

Dinner in the Grand Epernay Restaurant featured one of the highlights many Celebrity Cruises guests look forward to, complimentary lobster tail served during Evening Chic night. It was another wonderful meal and the perfect way to end our final Alaska port day before enjoying the Shine the Night celebration and dueling pianos later in the evening. 🦞✨

Our final Alaska port was another memorable day aboard the Celebrity Solstice. From relaxing at sea and exploring Ketchikan to spotting bald eagles and enjoying another fantastic evening onboard, Day 6 offered a wonderful mix of Alaska adventure and life aboard the ship. Next up is our final sea day before returning to Vancouver.

10 Questions We Had Before Sailing Celebrity Solstice (Answered)

10 Questions We Had Before Sailing Celebrity Solstice (Answered)

Planning a Celebrity Solstice cruise? Before sailing on the Celebrity Solstice, we had plenty of questions about what to expect onboard. From dropping off our carry-on bags and charging our devices to formal night, complimentary dining, cabin amenities, and whether we’d sail the Celebrity Solstice again, we wanted to know the answers before stepping onboard.

After spending a week aboard the Celebrity Solstice on a 7-night Alaska cruise, we’re answering the 10 biggest questions we had before sailing. If you’d like to see everything in more detail, be sure to watch our full video below.

🎥 Watch the full video here:

1. Can You Drop Off Your Carry-On Bags Before Your Cabin Is Ready?

Yes! Shortly after boarding the Celebrity Solstice, we were allowed to leave our carry-on bags in our cabin while our stateroom attendant finished preparing the room. It made embarkation day much easier since we didn’t have to carry our bags around the ship for a couple of hours.

2. What Charging Options Are Available?

The vanity includes two North American outlets and one European outlet, while the bathroom has a shaver outlet. One pleasant surprise was discovering USB-A and USB-C charging ports beside the bed after the ship’s refurbishment. Bringing a European adapter is still a great idea for adding even more charging options.

3. Will You Get a Table for Two?

We had an assigned dining time of 8:15 in the Grand Epernay Restaurant, but we weren’t sure if we’d be seated with other guests or have our own table. To our surprise, Celebrity had already assigned us a window table for two for the entire cruise, making every dinner feel a little more special.

4. Can You Request a Fan, and Is the Cabin Cool Enough?

Our inside cabin stayed comfortable throughout our Alaska cruise, especially with the thermostat turned down. We also requested a fan through Guest Services, and one was delivered to our stateroom shortly after boarding. If you enjoy sleeping with a fan, it’s worth asking because they’re available on a first-come, first-served basis.

5. Does the Shower Have a Door, and What Amenities Are Included?

The Celebrity Solstice features an acrylic shower door instead of a shower curtain, which we really appreciated. The shower also included shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. In addition, the bathroom offered liquid hand soap, body lotion, and a hair dryer, so there were fewer toiletries to pack.

6. Does Celebrity Solstice Feel Crowded?

Even though our sailing was completely sold out, the ship rarely felt crowded. We usually found seating in the buffet, elevator waits were short, and there were plenty of quiet places to relax throughout the ship.

Even on a sold-out sailing, we found plenty of space to relax around the Lido Deck.

7. What Is Chic Night Really Like?

Celebrity’s Chic Night was much more relaxed than we expected. While many guests dressed nicely, very few men wore full suits on the first Chic Night. On the second Chic Night, more passengers dressed up, and yes, complimentary lobster tail was served in the Grand Epernay Restaurant.

8. What Complimentary Dining Is Included?

There are plenty of complimentary dining options aboard the Celebrity Solstice. During our cruise, we enjoyed the Oceanview Café buffet, Mast Grill, Sunset Park Café, Spa Café, Café Al Bacio, and the Grand Epernay Restaurant, giving us lots of variety throughout the week.

9. Can You Relax in the Buffet Between Meals?

Yes! One thing we really appreciated was being able to stop into the Oceanview Café between meal times for a coffee, lemonade, iced tea, or juice while enjoying the incredible scenery through the large windows. It became one of our favorite places to unwind.

The Oceanview Café isn’t just a great place to eat. It’s also the perfect spot to relax with a drink and enjoy the incredible Alaskan scenery between meal times.

10. Would We Sail Celebrity Solstice Again?

Absolutely. We loved the elegant atmosphere, relaxing pace, beautiful public spaces, and overall adult-focused experience. If you’re looking for a cruise that feels refined, comfortable, and relaxing, we wouldn’t hesitate to sail on the Celebrity Solstice again.
